Nissan has plans for a triumphant return to India’s automotive landscape, and the Nissan Gravite will be an essential component of this comeback plan. The company is expected to launch the Gravite on January 21, 2026 as a 7-seater Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) targeting Indian customers who are looking for a spacious, practical vehicle at an affordable price.
The Nissan Gravite represents the company’s new small-sized MPV created exclusively for developing countries such as India. Its position will sit lower than the brand’s larger (SUVs), and Nissan aims to market it as a cost-effective method of transporting people like the Renault Triber. Nissan is seeking customers interested in a budget vehicle with 7 seats and ample room without having to upgrade to higher-priced MPVs (large) or SUVs.

The Gravite will use the CMF-A/CMF-A+ Tamaro platform developed with Renault’s several current products (e.g. Triber) and may also share some components with those products. Although it will share similar foundations, Nissan intends for the Gravite to have a unique style from those models and will provide an aggressive front grill design, LED headlamps, sculpted front and rear bumpers, and a higher level of premium, presence on the road.
The Nissan Gravite must be less than 4 m in overall length to qualify for India’s tax rebates but also offers its owners a large amount of cabin space thanks to its long wheelbase.
Engine and Transmission
Most likely the powerplant of the Gravite will be a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor, with an output of 72 PS and 96 Nm of torque, tuned specifically for good fuel economy and smooth driving in an urban environment, rather than performance.
The transmission choices that will likely be available include:
5-speed manual transmission
5-speed Automated Manual Transmission
A CNG fuel option may eventually be made available to appeal to cost-sensitive consumers and fleet operators.
Interior, Seating and Features
The Gravite will feature a 7-seat configuration; Flexible seating and stowable seats in the rear will be available for added cargo capacity. The functionality of the cabin will focus on comfort and practicality and will allow users to comfortably utilize the Gravite daily to transport their families.
Expected features include:
- 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- Digital instrument cluster (higher variants)
- Rear AC vents
- Push-button start/stop
- Keyless entry
- Steering-mounted controls
Safety
Safety is expected to be a strong focus, with features such as:
- Dual front airbags (more on higher trims)
- ABS with EBD
- Rear parking sensors and camera
- Electronic Stability Control (top variants, expected)
Expected Price & Rivals
The Nissan Gravite is expected to be priced between ₹6 lakh and ₹9 lakh (ex-showroom), making it highly competitive. Its main rivals will include:
- Renault Triber
- Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
- Kia Carens (lower variants)
Final Thoughts
With the Gravite, Nissan is targeting a high-volume segment that values affordability, space, and reliability. If priced aggressively and equipped well, the Nissan Gravite could become a strong contender in the compact MPV segment and mark an important step in Nissan’s revival journey in India.
