Hyundai Bayon: A chic urban SUV that’s not likely to be seen in India
Although the Bayon SUV looks fantastic, it may not ever be seen on roads in India and may have been designed primarily for the car buyers in Europe. A compact crossover vehicle, the Bayon has every day practicality and a modern design with technical innovations. The Bayon is positioned below the Kona SUV in Hyundai’s global product line-up and is designed for city-dwelling drivers.
It’s fashionable but not too much
The Bayon is a crossover vehicle with an elegant and well-balanced design. The futuristic appearance of the Bayon can be attributed to Hyundai’s split headlamp design. The sides of the Bayon are streamlined and the rear tail lights are stylishly connected, which gives the vehicle a premium appearance, even though it is a compact crossover. It is easy to envision this vehicle cruising comfortably through congested streets of many city’s.
Performance and Safety Features
In Europe, the Bayon comes equipped with a variety of petrol engine options such as the 1.2l naturally aspirated engine and the more efficient 1.0l turbo-petrol with a mild hybrid option. Each of these engines are tuned to provide a smooth driving experience along with excellent fuel economy. Additionally, higher-end trim levels offer advanced safety features (of Advanced Driver Assistance) that help provide an even greater level of safety for drivers.
Why not India (yet)?
The Bayon would be a great addition to Hyundai’s lineup and fit nicely in between the i20 and the Creta, however, it appears as though it is not coming to the Indian market due in part to the Venue line that Hyundai has established. Should the Bayon be offered for sale in India it would likely create strong competition with Tata, Maruti and Kia in the small SUV segment.
Overall, the Hyundai Bayon proves that a small SUV doesn’t have to sacrifice style, sophistication, or practicality; rather, it is intended as an Urban SUV. This is a type of vehicle many consumers in India would be interested to see on their roads.
